Who We Are

Establishing a Dream Center in Gadsden, Alabama has been the passion of Eddie Nichols for many years. As the founder of Breakaway Ministries, Eddie has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others through the love and acceptance of Jesus Christ. Breakaway Ministries seeks to be the hands and feet of Christ by providing support services to the poor and at-risk youth of Etowah County.

Through bible studies, youth camps, transitional housing, mentoring, and helping navigate the web of social services, Breakaway helps men and women, boys and girls break the chains of poverty and despair to reach their God-given potential.

The Megan Kelley Dream Center is named in memory of Eddie’s great neice, Megan Kelley, who passed away after her hard fought battle with cancer. One of Megan’s famous quotes was, “Be kind to everyone, you never know what they are going through.” This Dream Center will be the embodiment of that mission. Providing kids a safe place to go for recreation, mentoring, learning life skills, tutoring, and growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

In 2015 Breakaway Ministries acquired the property at 600 Black Creek Road from Winsouth Credit Union. Plans were made and work began to transform the dilapidated interior into the vision for the future. Numerous individuals and a local congregation provided money and manpower necessary to get started. However, additional work was not possible until roofing replacement and repairs totaling $100,000 were completed.

After months of prayer and faithful expectation a generous donor with a true heart for the mission of The Dream Center agreed to perform the necessary roofing work for $20,000.

Phase 1 is a campaign to raise the money necessary to complete this work.
